The boys patiently waited for weeks to get more chicks. We decided that today would be the day and headed to the farm store after setting up what would be their new home. Our goal was to pickup some layer chickens and a couple straight run chicks (which are 98% roosters) we all miss having a rooster around. Ahhhh the memories. A warm evening listening to the frogs croak as you go to bed and then waking up to a rooster crowing.
Eli wanted to pick them out this time and possibly against my better judgement I allowed him to :) Of course the store had 10+ different layer varieties to pick from. He wanted a black one, a yellow one, a brown one, ect..... I sadly have no idea what we have now. I lost track on chick #6 :( Once they start getting their feathers in I will be able to tell the breeds better, but I was just happy that he got what he wanted (the pic is Micah holding his box on the way home) Unfortunately they were sold out of straight run chicks. It seems that all the farm stores are right now. Not sure what is up with that. We plan to head back to the farm store at the end of the month to start of next month. By they they are hoping to have some Guinea hens and straight runs at least. I could go chicken crazy with the boys. We all love having them :)
We truly enjoy spending time on our mini farm and working as a family. Making things on our own as often as possible
