Now that our baby goats have had a few days to grow and begin exploring we decided as a family we had time to care for other animals. We are blessed to have several wonderful farm stores in close proximity to us. One of those wonderful farm stores received their first shipment of baby chicks in. After finishing up some of my homework (yes I have homework ~ I was crazy enough to begin my master's degree) we ventured to the farm store to see what chicks they had left. Though they did not have the breed I was hoping to get (Red Star) they did have eight pullet breeds from their first shipment to choose from. We decided not to overdo it with the first group and decided on some Barred Rock, Black Sex Link, and a couple Araucana (aka Easter Egg). The boys were so excited and each one had a box to hold on the way home. The chicks are resting comfortably in their new home (indoors for the time being - it is February in Michigan after all).
In a few weeks we will begin looking to purchase our second group of baby chicks. Not sure what breed we will get, guess we will wait and see what they have at that time. The boys are already asking if it is time to go again. So blessed to have boys that enjoy raising animals and being outdoors.
We truly enjoy spending time on our mini farm and working as a family. Making things on our own as often as possible
